Douglas Messick is a Music Educator from Mountain Home, Arkansas. He currently serves as a Graduate Assistant at Missouri State University while studying for his Masters of Music in Wind Band Conducting.
Previously, Douglas served as the Director of Bands at Cotter High School, in Cotter, Arkansas. There, the program saw immense success, with many state contest appearances for the first time in program history, and as consortium lead for new works written for small wind bands.
At Arkansas Tech University, Douglas obtained a Bachelor of Music Education in December of 2022, graduating with honors. Douglas’ primary instrument is the trumpet, with extensive knowledge and performances with auxiliary trumpets and trumpet mutes. He also possesses performance experience and extensive knowledge over brasswind instruments, woodwind instruments, string instruments, voice, and piano. Douglas also has researched and performed presentations over different areas of trumpet pedagogy, wind band scholarship, conducting, and learning exceptionalities.
Principal instructors have included Dr. Brad Snow (Missouri State University), Dr. Mathew Boswell (Missouri State University), Dr. TJ Perry (Arkansas Tech University), Dr. Daniel Belongia (Arkansas Tech University), Dr. Jim Daughters (Arkansas Tech University), and Mr. Tom Chentnik (Mountain Home Career Academies). Douglas has also completed internships with Jesse Crowley (Norfork School District) and Payton McCartney (Russellville Middle School).
Douglas is also a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and is a member of the Kappa Eta Chapter at Arkansas Tech University.
